Sean Boylan, a hurler by trade, went on to be one of the greatest managers in Gaelic football.
His successful management career with Meath that lasted over 23 years resulted in 4 All Ireland titles for the Royal County.
Sean took over mangement of the meath team in 1983. His appointment was a surprise as he himself was a hurler. The Meath team hadn't won any trophies in years, and the team was lacking moral. By 1986 Meath had one the Leinster football title. From this platform he managed the team to All ireland glory in 1987.
Sean's teams were involved with many famous replays, against Kildare and Dublin. The matches against Dublin were a famous episode with the teams playing 3 replays of the first round of the Leinster championship first round.
Another famous replay was the 1996 All Ireland final. Colm Coyle's last minute point in the first match secured a replay of the the final.
