Seán Boylan Senior

In Meath a man called Sean Boylan was in charge of the revolutionaries. Boylan was a natural leader of men and his team of rebels were tasked with keeping communication to Dublin city open.

Bloody Sunday, Nov 21st 1920

Among the dead were 14 people attending a Gaelic Football Match between Tipperary and Dublin at Croke Park. At least 60 were injured.

What followed thereafter has left many further scars on Irish society. The Irish Civil War began in 1919. On Bloody Sunday Nov 21st 1920 at least 31 people were killed, including sixteen Irish civilians, three Irish republican prisoners and eleven British soldiers and police.

His Son Sean Boylan Jnr was another leader of men who famously led his County to 4 All-Ireland Gaelic Football Titles as Team Manager. He once said of his father ‘My father was a natural leader of men, whereas it was something I had to work at a bit more. He always believed in me more than I perhaps did in myself’.
